Carward Race Engineering is able to offer specialist services for owners of the ubiquitous Monkey Bike, from crankcase preparation and helicoiling to complete engine rebuilds. Genuine Honda or Japanese after market performance parts are used wherever possible subject to customers requirements.

If you're contemplating increasing the capacity of your engine by fitting a big bore kit, your crankcases will need the barrel opening machining out to accept the larger cylinder.

This can be provided on a fast turnaround basis, together with the oil supply hole enlarged to 1.6 or 2mm if required, for £24.00 plus post and packing.

A cylinder head reconditioning service is available offering anything from damaged thread repairs to fully ported, high compression race heads fitted with bronze valve guides and heavy duty valve springs. Valve seats are machined using tungsten carbide cutters eliminating the need for lengthy hand lapping.

Prices for standard cylinder head restoration work are as follows:

Cut Three Angle Valve Seats £12.00 per valve

Supply and fit new Phosphor Bronze Bullet Valve Guides and cut Three Angle Valve seats £41.00 per valve

Valve Re-Profiling (includes hand lapping to new valve seat if required) £6.00 per valve

Spark Plug Thread Inserting £6.00

Phosphor Bronze Valve Guides are available to suit Takegawa Superhead / Kawasaki KSR 4.5mm valves, Takegawa R Stage 5mm valves and regular Honda 5.5mm valves. The Valve Guides are machined from concentrically cast, phosphor bronze alloy PB1 (BS1400: 1985). This alloy has excellent properties which include hardness, self lubrication and corrosion resistance, making it especially suitable for use as a valve guide operating with unleaded fuels.

Lightening and Balancing your flywheel will make your engine more responsive and increase reliability of the crankshaft assembly. A Flywheel Lightening and Balancing service is available from £17.50 plus return postage.

Honda Nice oil spinners can also be lightened and balanced, improving the pick up, rev ability and smoothness of this already impressive engine.

If you have damaged a thread in an engine casing or hub, all is not lost as we offer a thread reclamation service from just £2.75 per thread. Why throw away that expensive casting when you can get it repaired to a condition that is stronger than what it was before? Did you know a well known engine manufacturer fits stainless steel thread inserts to all his aluminium castings as a normal production process?

A full engine rebuild service is available with various states of tune from standard to full race. Genuine Honda and quality Japanese aftermarket performance parts are used throughout. Engines can be built to any size and specification currently available. Please contact us to discuss the options.
